Yes, in most cases. Many Jackery power stations support "pass-through" use, meaning they can power devices while they recharge from a wall outlet, solar panels, or a car port. Support and behavior vary by model and generation, so check your manual or the official product page for your exact unit.
What pass-through use means
When you plug a device into an output port while the unit is charging, power flows in and out at the same time. Charging input first goes to your devices, and any surplus tops up the battery. If your devices draw more than the input supplies, the battery makes up the difference and may still drain.
Things to check before relying on it
- Net power matters. If you draw 300 W and the input is 200 W, the battery loses about 100 W (before conversion losses). Charging does not guarantee a rising battery level.
- Conversion losses. Running AC output uses the inverter, which wastes some energy as heat. Expect slower charging than with nothing plugged in.
- Heat and ventilation. Charging and discharging together generates more heat. Keep vents clear and avoid enclosed or hot spaces.
- Model differences. Some power stations may switch to a bypass mode, or limit output, while charging. Documentation differs between older and newer models, so confirm in the manual rather than assuming.
- Solar input is variable. Clouds and shade change input, so loads can briefly exceed it and pull from the battery.
Sensitive and critical equipment
Do not treat pass-through as a guarantee of uninterrupted power for anything where an interruption could cause harm. Jackery does not market its units as a medical-grade UPS, as far as we know, so confirm with the manufacturer. If you depend on a medical device, talk with your clinician or device supplier about backup plans. Heavy loads are a different matter. Check wattage first, for example for a space heater, well pump or window air conditioner.
Choosing a model
If pass-through matters to you, compare input wattage, output wattage and documented charging behavior across models. Our picks for seniors and medical backup are a starting point. Confirm current specs on the official Jackery site before buying.
