Sometimes, yes, but it depends on the pump and the model. A small household sump pump can run from a larger Jackery Explorer, as long as the power station's continuous output and surge rating cover the pump's startup draw. Smaller units are usually not a good match, and no portable power station is a substitute for a plan if flooding is a serious risk.
What decides whether it works
- Running vs. startup watts. Many sump pumps are rated around 1/3 to 1/2 horsepower. Motors draw a surge when they start, often well above the running figure. Check the pump's nameplate or manual for both numbers. We haven't measured your pump, so don't rely on a generic estimate.
- Inverter limits. The station's continuous AC output must exceed the pump's running watts, and its surge rating must exceed the startup draw. Confirm both for your exact model on the official Jackery site.
- Battery capacity. Runtime depends on how often the pump cycles, which depends on how fast water enters the pit. A pump that runs briefly now and then uses far less than one running constantly in a storm.
- Recharging. Outages can last longer than one battery charge. Solar panels can help top up between cycles, though cloudy storm weather limits that.
Rough fit by size
| Class | Likely fit |
|---|---|
| Small stations (around 300 Wh class) | Generally not suitable for a standard AC sump pump. |
| Mid-size (around 1000 Wh class) | May handle a small pump for a limited time. Verify the surge rating against your pump. |
| Large (3600 Plus, 5000 Plus class) | Better headroom for startup surge and longer runtime. Expansion batteries can add capacity. |
This is a general guide, not a tested result. Specs vary by model and generation, so check current figures before buying.

- Keep the station dry and out of the pit area. Flooded basements are a real shock hazard. If water is near outlets or the unit, don't touch anything and call a licensed electrician.
- Use a heavy-duty extension cord rated for the load, and keep it short.
- Test the setup before storm season, not during one.
- Don't run a power station in enclosed damp spaces without reading the manual. See Can you use a Jackery indoors?
- Hardwired pumps may need an electrician and proper transfer equipment rather than a plug-in connection.
- For flood-prone homes, consider a battery-backup sump system designed for the purpose, and ask a plumber or electrician.
